On Saturday at Woodwinds in Branford, Cheshire High School senior co-captain Evan Russo was among 30 high school and prep school players honored during the 64th Casey-O’Brien New Haven County Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Scholar Athlete Banquet. Annually, member schools nominate a senior player for their work on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.

A three-year varsity player at defensive end, Russo earned All-State Top 26, as well as Walter Camp Football Foundation and All-Southern Connecticut Conference First Team honors, in his senior year. He led the Rams in sacks (15.5), pass deflections (nine), and fumble recoveries (tie at two). Russo finished with 78 tackles.

Offensively, he made three receptions for 72 yards and scored his first two touchdowns.

Cheshire qualified for the Class MM playoffs and finished 8-3 under Head Coach Don Drust.

Russo has chosen to attend Boston College.
