Rams Sweep In Track And Field On Thursday, Boys' Lacrosse Team Extends Win Streak

On Thursday, Cheshire High School outdoor track and field teams both earned sweeps against host Wilbur Cross and East Haven. CHS girls (2-1-1) picked up their first victories in wins over WC (137-3) and EH (97.5-48.5).

Senior Squirrel Lanz captured the 100- (13.48) and 200-meters (27.59), as well as the 100- (16.28) and 300-meter (46.70) hurdles. Seniors Alexa Ciccone (3,200-meters, 11:10.95) and Mia Vientos (800-meters, 2:28.07), juniors Leah Farrell (400-meters, 1:02.68) and Aubrielle Richard (triple jump, 29 feet, 8.5 inches), and sophomore Ava Ciccone (1,600-meters, 5:45.78) were also individual winners.

Senior Emma Rinaldi, junior Camryn Beeman, and freshmen Ava Hartunian and Shannon Gordon won the 4x100-meter relay (53.46). Beeman and Hartunian also joined sophomore Eva Morse and Vientos on the winning 4x400-meter squad (4:32.98).

Ava Ciccone, sophomore Emily D’Souza, freshman Sage Falcon, and Farrell led the way in the 4x800-meter race (11:05.40).

CHS boys (3-1) also beat WC (103-42) and EH (78-67). Freshman Matthew Gajecki (800-meters, 2:06.51) and junior Daniel Irish (1,600-meters, 4:47.79) both clocked top times and also teamed with junior James Boyd and senior James Ferraro to win the 4x400-meter relay (3:42.74).

Junior Ja’mal Titus (javelin, 149’11”), sophomore Domenic Martone (3,200-meters, 12:22.73), and freshman Josh Lengyel (discus, 107’2”) added individual victories.

Titus partnered with junior Tristan Grove and freshmen Tucker Michaud and Auritro Dasgupta on the 4x100-meter relay that took first place in 47.15 seconds.

Junior Anthony Mariani, freshman Miquel Monreal, and seniors Daniel D’Souza and Tyler Caron had the winning time (9:36.70) in the 4x800-meter relay.

For the home opener on April 24, CHS teams face Lyman Hall and Shelton at 3:45 p.m.

Boys’ Lacrosse (6-1)

The Rams extended their win streak to five games, winning 17-4 at Xavier (4-4) in Middletown. Cheshire built a 7-2 lead at halftime and outscored the Falcons, 5-1, in each of the last two quarters.

Senior Adam Vernon led the offense with six goals and two assists. Senior tri-captain Matt Jeffery posted a hat trick and two assists, while junior Sean Grevelding picked up two goals and three assists.

Senior tri-captain Ryan Grove contributed a goal and two assists, along with controlling 11 of 23 face-offs. Junior Brady Potyrala recorded a goal and three assists.

Juniors Aniston Marsh and Nick Miller, sophomore JC Sutherland, and freshman Grant Paul added goals. Sutherland earned his first point.

Junior Ryan Ciupa chipped in an assist. In net, junior Joe Grenier finished with eight saves.

On Saturday, CHS hosts Glastonbury (4-3) at 1 p.m.

Girls’ Tennis (4-1)

The Rams travel to Milford’s Eisenhower Park to face host Lauralton Hall (4-2) at 3:45 p.m.

Baseball (2-5)

Cheshire heads to Wallingford’s Pat Wall Field to compete against host Lyman Hall (4-3) at 3:45 p.m.

Softball (5-1)

CHS visits Hamden to play Sacred Heart Academy (1-6) at 4 p.m.

Girls’ Lacrosse (5-2)

Cheshire hosts Conard at 6 p.m.

Boys’ Volleyball (4-2)

CHS welcomes Shelton (5-2) for a match at 6 p.m.
