CHS Boys' Volleyball, Girls' Tennis Teams Win In Wednesday Action

On Wednesday, Cheshire High School boys’ volleyball picked up a 3-0 sweep (25-8, 25-12, 25-21) over New Milford (0-6). Senior tri-captain Will Allen posted six kills, four aces, two digs, and an assist.

Junior Jacob D’Addona tallied nine kills, an ace, and a block. Senior tri-captain Connor Hayes compiled five kills, two aces, and a dig.

Junior James O’Connor chipped in four kills, a block, and a dig.

Sophomore Bradley Fang posted 10 assists, a block, and a dig. Juniors Jake Tierney and Bryan Rochefort continued nine and eight assists, respectively.

Tierney had a kill.

On Friday, Cheshire hosts Shelton (5-2) at 6 p.m.

Softball (5-1)

With the game scoreless in the top of the 10th inning, the Rams had their game suspended at Guilford (6-2). No date has been set yet to pick up the contest.

On Friday, the Rams travel to Hamden to face Sacred Heart Academy (1-6) at 4 p.m.

Girls’ Tennis (4-1)

With a 6-0 lead on Branford (1-5), Cheshire has won their contest, but one more match will be played when the Rams travel to Branford on May 10.

On Friday, Cheshire visits Milford’s Eisenhower Park to play host Lauralton Hall (4-2) at 3:45 p.m.

Boys’ Tennis (6-1)

The Rams extended their win streak to four matches, winning 5-2 over host Notre Dame-West Haven (0-4) at the University of New Haven. Sophomore Brayden Stratton (6-1, 6-0), freshman Mark Laskin (6-0, 6-1), and senior captain Shawn Lawless (6-0, 6-0) won in singles.

Junior Finn Hickey and sophomore Luke Hays (6-2, 6-0) and juniors Luke Hayden and Phil Dickinson (6-1, 6-1) posted doubles victories.

On Saturday, CHS competes against Fairfield Prep (5-0) at 11 a.m.

Boys’ Golf (0-1)

Cheshire dropped the opener, 149-177, to host Xavier (5-0) at Portland Golf Course. Senior Josh Wildstein (42), juniors Jack DeJoseph (44) and Dylan Gillotti (45), and senior Jacob Berkowitz (46) scored for the Rams.

For Thursday’s home opener at The Farms Country Club in Wallingford, Cheshire plays Branford and Portland at 2:30 p.m.

Baseball (2-5)

The Rams fell 4-1 to East Haven (6-1). Cheshire jumped ahead 1-0 in the first inning, but EH put up two runs in the third and sixth to rally for the road win.

CHS led 4-3 in hits, but the Rams were hampered by five errors.

Junior Bennett Crerar singled twice and drove in senior co-captain Kyle Cyr (walk, stolen base) for Cheshire’s run. Crerar also stole two bases.

Senior Max Bernstein and junior Luke Mann added singles. Junior Nick Giampietro joined Cyr with a walk.

Junior Jackson Enders pitched five innings, yielding three hits and four walks. He recorded nine strikeouts.

Junior Alex Convertito worked the last two innings.

On Friday, CHS heads to Wallingford’s Pat Wall Field to face host Lyman Hall (4-3) at 3:45 p.m.

Girls’ Golf (1-1)

The Rams fell 156-166 to host St. Paul Catholic at Westwoods Golf Course in Farmington. Sophomore Julia Paek shared medalist with St. Paul Catholic senior Olivia Dahn.

Senior captain Sophia DelRosso (41), juniors Olivia Beach (45) and Haley Hannan (46), and sophomore Piper Dooling (47) also played for the Rams.

On April 22 at 3 p.m., CHS faces Newington (host) and Wethersfield at Indian Hill Country Club in Newington.
