CHS Boys' Lacrosse Comes Away Victorious In New Jersey, Baseball Team Comes Up Short Against Easties

On Friday, Cheshire High School boys’ lacrosse (11-3) traveled to New Jersey and then returned with a 15-6 victory over Mahwah (8-6). CHS built a 10-3 lead by halftime.

Senior tri-captain Matt Jeffery (four assists) and senior Adam Vernon (two assists) both netted five goals, while senior tri-captain Ryan Grove controlled 20 of 23 face-offs and also scored twice. Junior Brady Potyrala recorded two goals and an assist.

Junior Aniston Marsh added a goal. In net, goalkeeper Joe Grenier made two saves in the victory.

On May 14, the Rams will face North Haven (8-5) in the final regular-season home game at 6:30 p.m. Senior Night will be held before the contest.

Baseball (3-14)

Cheshire fell 7-3 to East Haven (11-5). CHS went up 1-0 in the third, but the Yellow Jackets scored twice in the bottom half.

The Rams scored in the fourth and fifth to take a 3-2 advantage, however, EH put up two runs in the fifth and added three more in the sixth to rally for a sweep of the regular-season series.

Five errors hampered Cheshire in the game.

For CHS, senior co-captain Kyle Cyr posted a double and a single. He scored twice.

Juniors Drew Sargolini (walk) and Jackson Enders both had two singles and earned RBIs.

Junior Bennett Crerar and Dan Hayden and senior Max Bernstein also supplied singles. Senior Chris Kobylanski drew a walk.

In four innings, sophomore pitcher Josh Bonomo yielded five hits and struck out a batter. Sophomores Dylan Scalice (three hits, strikeout) and Stephen Fitzmaurice (hit, strikeout) both pitched an inning in relief.

On May 13, CHS comes home to face Lyman Hall (9-8) at 4 p.m. On April 19, the Trojans won 5-3 over the Rams at Pat Wall Field in Wallingford.

Tennis

Cheshire teams had their schedule impacted by rain. For CHS boys (13-3), the match against Fairfield Prep (16-0) was suspended at Fairfield University.

The teams will pick up play on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Cheshire girls (9-3) had their match moved to May 14 at Branford (5-9). The start time will remain as 3:45 p.m.
