Cheshire Track And Field Shines In Saturday's Middletown Invitational

On Saturday, Cheshire High School outdoor track and field athletes made an impact in the Middletown Invitational. For girls, senior Alexa Ciccone won the 3,200-meters (5:08.59), while classmate Squirrel Lanz took bronze medals in the 100- (14.67) and 300-meter (44.45) hurdles. Seniors Mia Vientos (800-meters, 2:19.47) and Nicole Emede (shot put, 33 feet, six inches) also came in third. Emede took 13th in discus (85’3”).

Junior Antonnise Codner contributed 16th place in shot put (29’1”). Sophomore Ava Ciccone (1,600-meters, 5:41.17) and junior Aubrielle Richard (triple jump, tie at 30’10”) finished 17th.

On the boys’ side, senior Tyler Caron placed fifth in the 3,200-meters (9:59.73). Classmates Daniel D’Souza (11th, 10:12.31) and Jack Lengyel (15th, 10:24.94) followed Caron.

Juniors Daniel Irish (10th, 4:33.99) and James Boyd (17th, 4:37.99) and Lengyel (20th, 4:39.64) made the top-20 of the 1,600-meters. Junior Ja’mal Titus earned 10th in javelin (145’3”) and freshman Auritro Dasgupta supplied 17th in the 200-meters (23.27).

Freshman Matthew Gajecki, Irish, Boyd, and senior James Ferraro sprinted to 11th place in the 4x400-meter relay (3:43.12).

For Senior Day and the dual-meet finale on May 8, Cheshire boys and girls face Sheehan at 3:45 p.m.

Monday’s Cheshire varsity schedule:

Girls’ Golf (5-3)

The Rams travel to Orange’s Grassy Hill Country Club for the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference Tournament at 3 p.m.

Girls’ Tennis (8-2)

CHS hosts Daniel Hand (6-4) at 3:45 p.m. On April 22, CHS pulled out a 4-3 victory in Madison.

Boys’ Tennis (12-2)

Winners of six straight matches, the Rams head to Branford (9-5) for a match at 3:45 p.m. On April 23, Cheshire won 5-2 in the first meeting.

Softball (12-1)

CHS pits their eight-game win streak against visiting West Haven (6-9) at 4:15 p.m. On April 15, Cheshire started the series with a 4-1 road win.

Baseball (3-11)

At University of Connecticut’s Elliott Ballpark, the Rams face Sheehan (7-7) at 5 p.m. On April 16, Sheehan posted a 12-2 victory in Wallingford.

Girls’ Lacrosse (7-5)

CHS visits Guilford (8-4) to play at 6 p.m.

Boys’ Volleyball (10-3)

The Rams take a trip to Shelton (8-5) to compete at 6 p.m. In the first meeting on April 22, Cheshire picked up a 3-0 sweep.
