Cheshire Girls Make Impact In SCC Novice Track And Field Meet

On Friday, Cheshire High School outdoor track and field competed in the Southern Connecticut Conference Girls Novice Championship at Hamden. Junior Lily Simenka-Glick won the triple jump (31 feet, four inches) and took seventh in the long jump (13’0.5”).

Sophomores Emily Black and Michaela Black, freshman Sophia Jimenez, and sophomore Jocelyn Grace captured the 4x800-meter relay (11:55.02). Freshman Cora Gilson, Grace, freshman Sage Falcon, and junior Dipti Rajbongshi earned runner-up in the 4x400-meter race (5:05.55).

Sophomores Victorija Brin (6:34.63) and Adeline Galvin placed third (6:34.63) and fourth (6:34.67), respectively, in the 1,600-meters. Grace (2:54.29), Falcon (2:54.71), Rajbongshi (2:54.93), and Jimenez (2:55.28) came in from seventh to 10th in the 800-meters.

Gilson and freshmen Alexa Knickerbocker, Alicia Lyons, and Aika Kwayu nabbed seventh in the 4x100-meter relay (1:01.06). Freshman Ava Niglio (400-meters, 1:13.06), sophomore Evelyn Johnson (100-meter hurdles, 21.24), and junior Ava Kimbro (discus, 52’9”) supplied ninth-place finishes.

Saturday’s varsity schedule:

Softball (18-1)

In the regular season finale, Cheshire pits their 14-game win streak against Daniel Hand (9-10) at 10 a.m. On May 1, CHS won 5-0 in Madison.

Boys’ Tennis (third seed, 14-4)

For the SCC quarterfinals, Cheshire plays Xavier (sixth seed, 9-6) at 10 a.m. CHS beat the Falcons on April 16 (4-3) and April 26 (7-0). 

Girls’ Tennis (3rd seed, 11-3)

In their SCC quarterfinal, the Rams host Mercy (sixth seed, 10-4) at 2 p.m.

Baseball (3-15)

Cheshire finishes the season with a doubleheader at Palmer Field in Middletown. CHS will open against host Guilford (12-6) at 11 a.m. and then compete against Daniel Hand (16-2) at 2 p.m.
